Unit 7 Public Policy
1. In order for a public agenda to be made, it has to go through the following steps. it goes through the national agenda, formulation, adoption, implementation, and evaluation.
2. Bill is introduced, then it goes to committee after that, the bill gets voted on, depending on if the bill gets passed, it gets sent to the president so he can approve of the bill.
3. Bureaucracy's have a large impact on the governments policy making. In order to get policies passed the president and congress must work with bureaucracies.
4. Courts make several decisions on the policy making, the court may interpret decisions although their opinion may not be a popular opinion.
5. Three domestic policy areas would be the environment, education and welfare. Welfare policies help those who make far less money, and are in need of the governments help, the government aides them by providing food stamps, payday loans, directory of child welfare, social housing services and WIC. Government policies for education would be the no child left behind, FERPA, IDEA and the higher education act.
6. Ways in which the U.S deals with foreign policies are containment and isolationism.
Containment: the action of keeping something harmful under control, in this case, containing communism
Isolationism: a policy of remaining apart from the affairs or interests of other groups, especially the political affairs of other countries. The U.S had this policy while trying to avoid entering WW1 and WW2.
7. Federalism is a fundamental aspect of the American government. Federalism influences policy making and gives the federal government more power.
8. Interest groups are a natural outgrowth of the communities of interests that exist in all societies, from the narrowest groups to broader groups to very broad organizations. Interest groups have a lot of people that may influence the public opinion on various topics.
9. Political parties is an organization of people who seek to achieve common goals to its members thorough the exercise of political power. Political parties can influence policy making by influencing public views on various topics.
10. Elections effect policy in many ways, one way would be how they influence the voters views in certain topics.
