Learning Objectives
1. The media influences the public opinion by being on TV, radio, newspapers, magazines etc. media is pretty much every where and anything that the media does one will eventually hear about and be influenced by it. Media may not teach you about politics but it informs you about what is going on. Depending from where you hear it from will you be influenced depending on your beliefs. For example MSNBC is more conservative so they will give more conservative ideas.
2. Media takes affect on public opinion by, how I said before it's pretty much everywhere especially if you are on the internet on a daily basis. Media will change how you think on certain things such as upcoming elections. The media will make sure that you are informed by anything that is going on in the political world. This could change political outcomes by the media focusing on one specific race, if they focus on influencing for example the Hispanic community, this would change the outcomes of the election.
3. Political candidates more then often will make one another look bad in front of the press. For example, when Obama was running for re election against Mitt Romney, he would often say that Romney was trying to run the country like a business rather then what it actually is, a country. Romney would point out all of the things Obama said he would accomplish in his 4 years, and did not accomplish.
4. The goal of the media is to inform the public of what is occurring outside of ones home. They are trying to let you know what to worry about and what you can do to make a difference in your community. This influences what the media covers on the news by seeing what is news worthy, if it really appeals to one who is watching the news.
5. Increasing concentration of major media outlets on fewer hands would mean less people showing up to voting events or any other political events. The growth on internet on the other hand would increase the showing up of the people, by the media interacting with social media such as twitter Facebook etc.
7. Lobbying and interest groups effect what people come out to vote for and what they support. They will affect what the people will want to change.
